नई दिल्ली। 2019 लोकसभा चुनाव के लेकर चुनाव आयुक्त सुनील अरोड़ा ने रविवार को देश के मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त का पद ग्रहण कर लिया है। उन्होंने पूर्व मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त ओपी रावत की जगह संभाली है जो 30 नवंबर को रिटायर हो गए थे।राष्ट्रपति रामनाथ कोविंद ने 1980 बैच के राजस्थान कैडर के आईएएस सुनील की नियुक्ति को मंजूरी दी थी। बता दें कि तीन सदस्यीय चुनाव आयोग में अशोक लवासा दूसरे चुनाव आयुक्त हैं। इससे पहले विधि मंत्रालय की ओर से मंगलवार को जारी आधिकारिक अधिसूचना में कहा गया था कि राष्ट्रपति ने चुनाव आयोग में सबसे वरिष्ठ निर्वाचन आयुक्त सुनील अरोड़ा को मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त के रूप में नियुक्त किया है।अरोड़ा आयोग की जिम्मेदारी ऐसे समय संभालने जा रहे हैं जब राजस्थान, मध्य प्रदेश और छत्तीसगढ़ में चुनाव चल रहे हैं। इन चुनावों को 2019 के लोकसभा चुनावों का सेमीफाइनल माना जा रहा है। राजस्थान में प्रशासनिक सेवा के दौरान विभिन्न जिलों में तैनाती के अलावा 62 वर्षीय अरोड़ा ने केन्द्र सरकार में सूचना एवं प्रसारण सचिव और कौशल विकास एवं उद्यमिता मंत्रालय में सचिव के रूप में कार्य किया है। इसके अलावा वह वित्त और कपड़ा मंत्रालय एवं योजना आयोग में विभिन्न पदों पर अपनी सेवाएं दे चुके हैं। वह 1993 से 1998 तक राजस्थान के मुख्यमंत्री के सचिव और 2005 से 2008 तक मुख्यमंत्री के प्रधान सचिव भी रह चुके है।
