भारतीय सिनेमा में भगत सिंह सहित और कई अन्य देशभक्त नायकों पर फ़िल्मो का निर्माण किया जा चूका है लेकिन देशभक्त चंद्रशेखर आज़ाद पर किसी भी फिल्मकार ने अब तक फिल्म नहीं बनायीं थी ऐसे में देश के सबसे पुराने और प्रतिष्ठित स्टूडियो बॉम्बे टॉकीज़ द्वारा निर्मित चंद्रशेखर आज़ाद के आधारित फ़िल्म राष्ट्रपुत्र एक प्रयोगधर्मी फ़िल्म है जो यह बताने में क़ामयाब रहती हैकि भारत वर्ष को आज़ाद की जरुरत पहली भी थी और आज भी है।
हम फिल्म को प्रयोगधर्मी फिल्म इसलिये कह रहे है क्योकि दो अलग अलग समय पर फ़िल्म की कहानी चलती रहती है दो अलग अलग कल खंडो में फिल्मायी गयी है कहानी का पहला हिस्सा देश के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम से समय से शुरू होती है जहाँ पर चंद्रशेखर आजाद के नेतृत्व अहम् लड़ाई लड़ी जा रही है
फ़िल्म में दूसरा हिस्सा आधुनिक भारत है जहाँ पर आज के नायक आजाद देश में फैले नशे की काली दुनियाँ को ख़त्म करने के लड़ाई है। इस लड़ाई में आज़ाद के सामने सुल्तान , सतवीर और नेपाली जैसे खलनायक है । आज का आजाद चंद्रशेखर आज़ाद की तरह ही बेहद चतुर है आजाद कौन है कहाँ रहता है किसी को कुछ भी नहीं पता है शहर के नामी उद्योगपति दिलीप सिंघानिया की बेटी रिया लापता है पुलिस और प्रशासन उसकी खोज में लगे है जबकि रिया आज़ाद और उसके दोस्तों प्यार और सच्चाई की दुनिया में बेहद खुश है फिल्म में दो लड़ाई चल रही है चंद्रशेखर आज़ाद देश की लड़ाई लड़ रहे है उनके गुरुमंत्र पर चलनेवाला आजाद देश के दुश्मनो को मिटा रहा है। चंद्रशेखर आज़ाद की तरह ही आधुनिक आज़ाद भी देश के दुश्मनों के ख़िलाफ़ इस जंग में जित पायेगा इसके लिए आपको फिल्म देखनी पड़ेगी।
फिल्म में सबसे पहले और सबसे ज्यादा प्रभावित आज़ाद अपने नेचुरल अभिनय से करते है। उनकी आवाज में एक क्रांति है आज़ाद और चंद्रशेखर आज़ाद की भूमिका में आज़ाद अपने अभिनय की छाप छोड़ने मे कामयाब रहते है। फिल्म में रिया का किरदार निभानेवाली रूही सिंह का अभिनय भी अच्छा है तो नेपाली के किरदार में मनीष श्रीवास्तव वाकई डरावने लगते है। अन्य प्रमुख किरदारों में जाकिर हुसैन , राकेश बेदी अचिन्त्य कौर और विवेक वासवानी ने भी अपने किरदारों के साथ न्याय किया है।
