जकार्ता: इंडोनेशिया के सुलवेसी प्रांत में 28 सितंबर को आए 7.5 तीव्रता के भूकंप और उसके बाद आई सुनामी में मारे गए लोगों की संख्या 2,045 हो गई है। प्रशासन ने बुधवार को बताया कि लगभग 5,000 लोग लापता हैं। समाचार एजेंसी एफे के अनुसार, राष्ट्रीय आपदा प्रबंधन एजेंसी ने एक संवाददाता सम्मेलन में कहा कि पालू में सर्वाधिक 1,636 लोगों की मौत हुई। माना जा रहा है कि आखिरी रिपोर्ट आने तक मौत का यह आंकड़ा पांच हजार से भी ऊपर जा सकता है।पालू में सबसे अधिक मौत हुई है, लेकिन इसके बाद सिगी में 222, डोंगाला में 171, परिगी में 15 और पसंगकायु में एक व्यक्ति की मौत हुई है। 1076 मृतकों को उनके परिजनों तथा शेष 969 शवों को सामूहिक रूप से प्रशासन ने दफना दिया। हालिया आंकड़ों के अनुसार, 10,679 लोग घायल हुए हैं, जिनमें 2,549 लोग गंभीर रूप से घायल हैं। लगभग 82,775 विस्थापित लोग 100 से ज्यादा राहत शिविरों में रुके हुए हैं।प्रशासन ने लगभग 5,000 लोगों के बलाराओ और पेटोबो के दलदल में दफन होने की आशंका जताई है। देश में 2004 में आई सुनामी के बाद सुलवेसी भूकंप और सुनामी सबसे प्रलयकारी साबित हुए हैं। 2004 में आई सुनामी में 1,67,000 लोगों की मौत हुई थी। इंडोनेशिया भौगोलिक रूप से ‘प्रशांत महासागरीय क्षेत्र के रिंग ऑफ फायर पर स्थित है, जहां भूकंप और ज्वालामुखी संबंधी घटनाओं की सक्रियता ज्यादा होती है। यहां प्रतिवर्ष लगभग 7,000 झटके लगते हैं, जिनमें ज्यादातर झटके मध्यम तीव्रता के होते हैं।दुनिया में पृथ्वी पर सक्रिय ज्वालामुखियों में सबसे अधिक इंडोनेशिया के आसपास के क्षेत्र में पड़ते हैं। ज्वालामुखियों की इसी संख्या के कारण इस इस इलाके को रिंग ऑफ फायर कहा जाता है। सक्रिय ज्वालामुखियों की संख्या भी इस इलाके में दुनिया में मौजूद ज्वालामुखियों का 50 फीसदी है। सक्रिय ज्वालामुखी इतनी अधिक होने के कारण यहां पृथ्वी पर आनेवाले भूकंप में 75 यहीं आते हैं।
